BRIGHTEN YOUR HOME WITH AUTUMN COLOUR SCHEMES

0
0

Does your home need an injection of warmth and cosiness this autumn? With the long nights drawing in, it’s time to say goodbye to the fresh touches of summer and hello to this year’s autumnal colour trends.

The transition into autumn brings with it dull skies and chilly nights, but don’t let that dampen your mood! It’s the ideal time to give your living space a seasonal make-over. There are plenty of ways to add autumn to your home and we’ve been on the hunt for colour schemes and cosy touches that’ll help you to settle into winter.

Choosing a Perfect Autumn Colour Scheme

Colour can change the mood of any room and when it comes to the autumnal colour palette, there are so many great options.  Autumn is aflame with colour, starting with magnificent magentas, purples and ambers, all the way through to natural greens, yellows and earthy browns. Bursts of red hues and subtle golden glows can almost immediately give a sense of cosiness to your home. But, where do you start in choosing your ideal colour scheme?

Shades of pumpkin, rust and maple are autumn colours that can only help to add warmth to your home. Neither too bright or muted, these warming tones are a true reflection of the season. If you’re looking for bolder autumnal colour options, try rich reds, dark olive greens, pebble greys and aubergine purples. These sit at the darkest and boldest end of the autumn spectrum and are fantastic for contrasting with oyster whites and lighter autumn colours.

There are of course softer options. Warm but muted, soft colour schemes can provide subtle hints of autumn while still maintaining a gentle and calm aesthetic. Mellow rose, toasted oatmeal and light corals are the perfect alternative to using rich fall colours.

Redecorate or Accessorise with Autumn Colours?

You may opt to redecorate fully with walls of colour. Single colours such as deep gold can act as a perfect backdrop for the season ahead. Wallpapers on the other hand, for example with bold florals, can add personality, colour and texture. Mirrors can be used to bounce light throughout the space and are perfect for those smaller rooms. Furniture can compliment your new look, this includes choice of lighting, seating and curtains.

If you don’t want to make major changes, giving your home that autumn feeling doesn’t necessarily mean painting walls or changing furniture. Swapping cushion covers and adding throws or chunky knits are just a few easy ways to add warmth and texture. Also consider refreshing your living space with a rug that enhances your chosen colour palette.

It doesn’t stop at soft furnishings either. You can add to the autumnal ambiance by updating photo frames and lighting scented candles. Copper metallic accessories can create a warm glow too. Last but not least, bring the outdoors in by filling vases with seasonal flowers, branches, leaves and berries.

We have to introduce you to our newly launched Bo Touch Bin! Available in a range of stylish colours, including Mineral Windsor Red and Mineral Golden Beach, it’s perfect for adding a splash of colour to your home this autumn! What’s not to love!

#LOVETOGIVE DESIGN INSIGHTS WITH MARIE GOURMANDISE

Welcome to our latest Design Insights interview! In this edition we welcome the lovely food and travel obsessed blogger, Marie Gourmandise!

Come on let’s get started!

Festive style. What’s your favourite thing about seasonal style in the home?

My home is simple and minimalist. The style is very Swedish, there is a lot of white and wood. But, for christmas the house becomes very traditional, there is normally a lot of red and white. For the food, well, it’s winter so it’s comfort food,  roasted  vegetables and hot soup, etc.

Let’s talk presents…Nice to give and nice to receive, from our stocking filler corkscrews to our newest answer to food waste, our fab storage jars with measuring cups, which Brabantia must-have you would #LoveToGive this holiday season?

I love Brabantia, it’s a must-have brand in my kitchen! At least once a week, I use my cast iron casserole to prepare my bread or to simmer a nice little dish! So of course, that’s one of the best gifts ever! I love roasted vegetables with meat (turkey, lamb and beef) and I do have a recipe on my blog that you can try.

Give us your top tip for stress-free entertaining over the festive period!

Get prepared! Organise the race for gifts and make a list for everyone. For example, we have a closet at home and throughout the year we put away gifts, so we know that we have a little present ready for everyone.

Love the planet. Any tips on how you recycle your festive waste and make food go that little bit further this holiday season?

Firstly, make a list before you go shopping. Ask your family to bring  storage boxes and if there are some leftovers, share with your family before they leave. If you still have some food left, freeze it and take it out when you don’t want to cook!

QUICK FIRE ROUND

– Small or expensive gift? A big smile is the best 🙂

Practical or daring present? Very practical, most of the time for the house!

– Guest or host?  Host of course!

– All out or minimalist festive decorating style?  Minimalist, don’t feel comfortable with loads of decorations.

Thanks for the interview Marie!

#LOVETOGIVE DESIGN INSIGHTS WITH KIRAN SINGH

It’s time for another Design Insights Interview – #LoveToGive edition! Today we’ve chatted to the multi-award winning entrepreneur and transformational coach as well as author and interior designer. Let’s welcome Kiran Singh!

Come on, let’s get chatting!

Festive style. What’s your favourite thing about seasonal style in the home?

My Christmas style is traditional with red and gold. I change my curtains,  cushions and interior accessories to red & gold mid-November and then put up the Christmas tree and decorations on the 1st of Advent. I also light Christmas scented candles and hang up fairylights over the window.

Let’s talk presents…Nice to give and nice to receive, from our stocking filler corkscrews to our newest answer to food waste, our fab storage jars with measuring cups, which Brabantia must-have you would #LoveToGive this holiday season?

It will no doubt have to be the Bo Touch Bin, stylish yet super practical and it comes in a variety of gorgeous colours to go along with your interior theme or your personality.

Culinary inspiration. What’s your favourite festive recipe and come on share your secret…which of our fab #LoveToGive kitchen utensils help make baking your go-to pleasure?

As I am Norwegian origin, I love Norwegian Christmas food,  especially ‘Cabbage Stew’ and ‘Rice cream with Raspberry Sauce’. Brabantia’s Pots & Pans are perfect for cooking these.  🙂

Take it easy. Give us your top tip for stress-free entertaining over the festive period!

For me, the most important thing is to leave the perfection and be authentic. Create an atmosphere and ambiance that’s relaxing and enjoyable. Let the food talk; food is, after all, memories. Sharing good food with friends and family is one of life’s great pleasures and gives us some of our happiest memories.

My top tip: When cooking for friends and family, remember the most important thing is that they come over to spend time with you, not to test your cooking skills. Keep it simple and get organised, and everything will go smoothly. Choose recipes you know you can manage in your kitchen with ingredients you know you can find. Read the recipes through before you start, refer to the work plan, then just relax and enjoy the shopping and cooking.

Love the planet. Any tips on how you recycle your festive waste and make food go that little bit further this holiday season?

Refuse what you do not need. Reduce what you do need. Reuse what you consume. Recycle with Bo Touch Bin what you cannot refuse, reduce or reuse and compost the rest.

QUICK FIRE ROUND

Small or expensive gift? Small, personal gifts definitely.

Practical or daring present? No doubt practical with my being organised personality.

Guest or host? I absolutely love hosting as I can do whatever my heart desires. I get easily bored anyway, so hosting will keep me busy 🙂

All out or minimalist festive decorating style? As Christmas is only once a year, I go all out when it comes to decorating.

Amazing interview, thanks Kiran! Don’t forget to check out Design the Lifestyle you Desire for more interior inspiration!

#LoveToGive Design Insights Interview with Daan Rot de Launay

Welcome to our latest Design Insights interview! In this edition, we discuss all things Christmas with the lovely blogger Daan Rot de Launay, from Maandagdaandag. Come on, let’s get into it!

What’s your favourite thing about seasonal style in the home?

The seasons bring a fresh wind in our home. Each season asks for a different approach. When autumn/winter arrives we need our blankets, candles and curtains, when spring/summer arrives we welcome the light and change the colours in our living room. We also add fresh flowers and open all the windows.

In front of our new house we have a big tree, it providing us with a beautiful light and shadows and all the colours changing from crisp green to darker green to yellow, orange and brown.

Show (or tell us about) us your most loved festive decoration!

I wrote a book ’Het hele jaarfeesten’ (All year parties) it was published by Chrisofoor. It is about how to celebrate the yearly festivities in your home with your family.

I have lots of boxes with festive decorations. A lot for Saint Nicholas, Christmas, Easter but also less know festivities like Candlemas or Mid Summer and of course with four kids we also celebrate a lot of Birthdays.

One of my favourite is a wooden light with changeable silhouettes and our Scandinavic Christmas angel candle holder. I also love advent calendars like the one Jurriane Matter made.

The Brabantia product you would #LoveToGive to make someone happy this holiday season?

I fell in love with the bins straight away! We recently moved house and now we have Brabantia bins. I sometimes press them to open just for fun, just to watch it slowly close and I do love the Brabantia garbage-bags with texts. You can say I’m a little crazy fan!

What’s your favourite festive recipe – how can we make it?!

I have this great simple egg recipe. Great breakfast after a night out or the perfect lunch for a long day at work. It’s amazing as you can get rid of soft tomatoes.

For this recipe you need eggs, tomatoes, onions and grated cheese. You put some olive oil or butter in a frying pan then add the chopped onions and tomatoes. Fry until soft, add the eggs and stir and cover with a lid and let it simmer. Lastly, just add some cheese and stir (well not some, use lots!). This is great on sourdough-bread with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Give us your must- know top tip for stress-free entertaining over the festival period!

When we have guests I love to fill the table with finger-food. It also doesn’t take that much time to make a good soup and buy the best bread, and pull out the yummiest tapenades, french cheeses and vegetables with hummus.

After dinner we like to move from the dining room to our living room and get out a guitar, sit behind the piano and make some music together. With a good cup of coffee, tea or even wine. If you’re not a singing bird like me, pull out a vinyl and listen to some records together.

When it’s just us six, I get a tablecloth and put it on the ground or even the floor, living room picnics are the best and so much fun!

Any top tips on how you recycle your festive waste and make food go that little bit further this holiday season? (p.s. have you seen Bo…?)

We love Bo! Bo fits in our bathroom perfectly and I love the recycling bins! We use the small compartment for paper and the big one for normal waste.

QUICK FIRE ROUND

Homemade or shop bought gifts? A mix! I love to make gifts, like a screen-printed t-shirt or cotton bag.

Guest or host? Guest, but I’m growing some confidence to host a bigger birthday party.

All out or minimalist decorating style?  All out, even more.

Traditional dishes or something new? Traditional, we love our little family traditions like pancakes at Christmas or even for my husband’s Birthday.

Thanks for the interview!

#LOVE TO GIVE DESIGN INSIGHTS INTERVIEW WITH JO MIDDLETON

0

It’s time for another Design Insights Interview – #LoveToGive edition! In this edition, we welcome the amazing Jo Middleton from lifestyle, travel and food blog, Slummy Single Mummy Let’s get started!

Festive style. What’s your favourite thing about seasonal style in the home?

I really love all aspects of Christmas, so style wise at home I love anything that adds the element of luxury or cosiness. Lovely velvet throws in deep reds, open fires, vibrant peacock colour palettes, and of course a real Christmas tree festooned with decorations! I always have spiced scented candles at Christmas too, as smell is an important aspect of home for me.

Take it easy. Give us your 1 top tip for stress-free entertaining over the festive period!

Well, I have to admit that my top tip is to go to someone else for Christmas! My sister moved to Ireland a few years ago and so for the last couple of Christmases we’ve headed there for a few days of festive fun. If you are having guests, then planning is key. Just make sure you never run out of mince pies or wine for mulling and everyone will be happy.

Let’s talk presents…Nice to give and nice to receive, from our stocking filler corkscrews to our newest answer to food waste, our fab storage jars with measuring cups, which Brabantia must-have you would #LoveToGive this holiday season?

Presents are my favourite bit about Christmas! I’m sure anyone looking in on our Christmas day would think we were ridiculous, but we do tend to go a little bit over the top when it comes to gifts! I love the new Brabantia Bo Touch Bin – (who knew bins could be so stylish?) – but for more of a stocking filler I love the new mint and pink storage jars that come with their own measuring cups. They’re the perfect mix of beautiful AND useful.

Culinary inspiration. What’s your favourite festive recipe and come on share your secret…which of our fab #LoveToGive kitchen utensils help make baking your go-to pleasure?

It mind sound a bit geeky, but a really good knife makes all the difference to my cooking. My youngest daughter has already put in a Christmas Day request for dauphinoise potatoes, so I’ll definitely need a good sharp kitchen knife for that, to slice the potatoes in perfect, thin slivers.

Love the planet. Any tips on how you recycle your festive waste and make food go that little bit further this holiday season?

It’s easy to find yourself with heaps of leftovers at Christmas, so you do need to be a bit savvy about them. I really hate throwing away food, so I always try to keep leftovers for snacks or to turn into other recipes, like the infamous Bridget Jones turkey curry buffet!

QUICK FIRE ROUND

Small or expensive gift? Expensive!

Practical or daring (wow factor) present? A mix of the two perhaps?

Guest or host? Guest. Then I don’t have to cook!

All out or minimalist festive decorating style? All out. Always.

Great interview, thanks Jo! Don’t forget to check out Slummy Single Mummy for the best lifestyle and food inspiration.

#LOVETOGIVE DESIGN INSIGHTS WITH SANDHYA HARIHARAN

Welcome to our latest Design Insights interview! For this special #LoveToGive edition, we welcome the incredible food blogger, Sandhya Hariharan from Sandhya’s Kitchen.  We talk all things festive and #LoveToGive, so come on, let’s get chatting!

Festive style. What is your favourite thing about seasonal style in the home?

Every festive season brings in a new wave of change in the house.. Very minimalistic though…Winter is always dark and gloomy. We tend to jazz up the house with a touch of yellow palette, candles and some cozy blankets.

Our Christmas tree is usually out by 1st of December and there are endless planning about presents and decorations. The kids also open their advent calendars on the 1st of Dec.

Spring is the herald for summer.. Just like that we like the feel of freshness all around the house… Lots of herbs on my window sill.

Let’s talk presents…Nice to give and nice to receive, from our stocking filler corkscrews to our newest answer to food waste, our fab storage jars with measuring cups, which Brabantia must-have you would #LoveToGive this holiday season?

Giving presents can be just as good. Soon after deciding who the presents are meant for, the hunt begins. For a very close family, I would #LovetoGive the Bo Touch Bin for sure. Its classy, practical and smart!

As a stocking filler, I would consider the cork screw (for a cool friend) and a colourful whisk (for a kiddo learning to cook) etc.

Culinary inspiration. What is your favourite festive recipe and come on share your secret…which of our fab #LoveToGive kitchen utensils help make baking your go-to pleasure.

My recent favourite recipe to go is Smashed Potatoes with Rosemary & Feta Cheese. Herb Scissors are definitely my favourite #LovetoGive Kitchen accessory.

Take it easy. Give us your 1 top tip for stress-free entertaining over the festive period!

Bring out the Jenga!! Its not just for the kids, adults love it too.

Love the planet. Any tips on how you recycle your festive waste and make food go that little bit further this holiday season?

Well, a recipe like smashed potatoes can never go to waste. Any extra left overs can get toasted into your sandwich for lunch the next day!

QUICK FIRE ROUND

Small or expensive gift?  Expensive 😉

Practical or daring (wow factor) present? No matter small or expensive, presents got to be Practical & Usable for sure:)

Guest or host? Host!! This gives us ample opportunity to keep the house in shape always.

All out or minimalist festive decorating style? Very minimalist decorating!

Thanks a lot Sandhya! Make sure you check out sandhya’s kitchen for inspiration and some delicious recipes!

The holiday season is just around the corner and there is one thing we can all be sure of… it’s the time of year that welcomes a never-ending selection of scrumptious seasonal food.

If you’re in search of simple snacks for the family or delicious canapés for friends, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of festive snacks that will get your taste-buds ready for winter. Are you ready to whet your appetite?

Cranberry and camembert puffs – These delicious puff pastry snacks are full of festive flavour and can be made in just 25 minutes. That’s record time amongst everything else you need to prepare for this season! Cranberries will add a tasty zing to any savoury treat, so unite with melting camembert for a taste sensation that must be explored this winter!

Healthy festive veggie cups – This is a fun and incredibly easy way to encourage healthy eating over the holiday season. With no tricky preparation involved, all you’ll need are a few plastic cups, some permanent markers and a moment of creativity to draw your festive cup characters. Slice your favourite vegetables into easy-to-eat bites and place into your freshly decorated cups. Fill elf cups with green sweet peas and cooling cucumber, and snowman cups with cauliflower florets and carrots.  What’s not to love!

Chocolate dipped snowflake pretzels – It wouldn’t be the holiday season without family favourite, the pretzel. Found in most households during winter, why not adapt this salty snack to satisfy those with a sweeter tooth? Simply melt white chocolate in a bowl and give your pretzels a generous dip. Sprinkle with edible snowflakes for a festive touch, leave to dry and serve!

Crispy prosciutto cups with seasonal stuffing – Impress everyone with an Italian spin on traditional festive food. Perfect for serving as a canapé or even as part of your roast dinner, these prosciutto cups will definitely get your guests into the seasonal spirit. Even better, they’re easier to make than you think!

Mini cheese & chive baked potatoes – This effortless dish can be served as an appetiser for every winter occasion. Simple to make, just bake some new potatoes and top with fresh sour cream. Finish with a sprinkle of chives for a bite-size winter warmer that will really hit the spot.

Fruitfully festive snowmen – It can be easy to overlook fruit, especially over the holiday season. These little banana snowmen are a healthy snack that are still festive, fun and delicious. Just two bananas can make a squad of eight, ready for little ones to tuck into. Yummy!

Festive blackberry sparkler  – The list wouldn’t be complete without one for the adults… Although more of a liquid snack, this festive sparkler can be enjoyed with friends, family, or once all the cooking is done! After all, it is the season to be merry. Take your favourite sparkling wine and add a dash of sweet Blackberry syrup. Why not add fresh blackberries and a sprig of rosemary for that added festive touch? Use lemonade in place of sparkling wine for a refreshing alcohol-free version!
